"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, emphasis mine.
The TSA, as a division of Homeland Security, is acting on behalf of the government. It is not a private agency. It is not exempt from the 4th Amendment protections.
Terry v. Ohio 392 U.S. 1 (1968) allows law officers to stop and frisk without a warrant if, and only if, the officer has witnessed something that gives the officer reasonable suspicion that the suspect 1) has a weapon AND 2) is an immediate danger to the officer or others.
In every exception to the Fourth Amendment, the scope of search has been limited and neither discretionary checkpoints nor "general" checkpoints has been allowed.
The TSA says that only 700 people have objected to their "enhanced security measures". The USA Today poll shows that most people polled were in favour of it.
