A newer, shinier toy.
May. 20th, 2009 02:15 pmSo.. the Toy didn't even last a full day. I mean, the Toy is intact and it functions well for an mp3 player, but the ebook function sucked and I couldn't deal. I was idly checking CList (and by idly, I mean typing in 'ipod touch' and hitting 'search' every 12 seconds or so all morning) and it paid off. 1st gen 8gb iPod Touch - $75, with earbuds, silicone case, and usb adapter. I emailed with "ME ME ME ME ME!" (yes, really) and he emailed back with "YOURS YOURS YOURS YOURS YOURS! When would you like to meet, and where?" At noon, I met with a complete stranger and exchanged cash for a small brown cardboard box, furtively in the back of Cafe Donuts' parking lot. I'm surprised they don't call the cops when they see me, I use that parking lot as a swap ground so often. To be fair, I also buy a lot of donuts there as well. Sometimes it's hard being me :)
Then my comedy of errors began. I went home, thinking I'd log into the Windows drive, load iTunes, move all my stuff over. Ubuntu doesn't recognize the Windows drive right now. Last night, my soundcard went all wonky, so I think something shit the bed - I'll fix it when I get home from vacation.
Went to work, loaded iTunes, went to get an ebook reader from the App Store.. and work has the store firewalled. ARGH!
Managed to transfer the music with no problem. Black Adder videos - no problem, and they work fine. 24 and CSI? No way. Won't see the XVid. Fine - I go find a converter and download it.. and it converts the first five minutes of the videos and no more. Uninstall, find another, and it does the same thing. Swear. A lot. Third time seems to be the charm, even if it is ad supported and obnoxious. Hopefully by the end of this, I'll have all the media I want to watch/listen to on the iPod. At least then it will all be in one place.
The next fun will be either moving it all back OFF the iPod so I can dl an ebook reader - I think it'll go "WAIT! You're registered at a computer already! I can't synch you here unless I erase all your media first! Do you want to do that? Yes/fuckno." Which... really, Apple, not your smartest move. I can't move between home and office without messing everything up? Really? Lame.
So far, I'm in love with the slide ability on the screen. I don't think this one has the tilt feature - I think that's the 2nd Gens - but the clarity is nice and it's hella easier to use than the Other Toy's touchscreen.
Now, it needs a name. I have Chaos, Hateful, Mayhem, and Spiteful as computer/things thus far. I'm running out of appropriate words :P
