The saga of evil cars continues.
Jun. 4th, 2009 08:30 amThe diesel Toyota is now No Longer My Problem as of last night. Turned out to be a good thing. I started the car with no problem, and had to deal with the heinous exhaust of winter diesel and Diesel 911 that had been sitting all winter. Gaggingly bad. I let it run to get the motor nice and hot, so if there were any smoking issues from the small oil leak I identified, the buyer would be able to see them, and also to show him that it doesn't actually drip anywhere.
Dude comes to check it out, gets in car, revs engine, gets out, looks at engine bits, gets back in car, turns car off. Goes to turn car on.. the empty click of emptiness. At this point, I stared in horror and began to panic. Pulled over the truck, tried to jump it. Eventually got it started. Then he went under it to bang on the seized brake and luckily I was in the car, because it jumped forward while he was under it. I backed it up off him - no harm no foul. He got the brake unseized :P The test drive went well and he offered $300 less than I was asking, but at that point, I'd have taken much, much less just to get rid of the car. Sold! Title signed, he began the very long drive home - 3 hours away.
He emailed last night to tell me he got 13 miles on the interstate before the car died again. They got it started and got it home, but it has a shot alternator. Considering all the battery issues I've had with that car, I'm pretty sure it had a shot alternator when I bought it.
I'm now down to just one car. My driveway is clear. I think I will spend this weekend working on the yard and then next weekend, have a garage sale.
ugh.
