Them: "Are you doing anything fun for the holidays?"
Me: I'm going to parties Friday and Saturday night, then next Saturday, I'm having people over.
Them: But what are you doing for Christmas?
Me: .. That is what I'm doing for Christmas.
Them: No, I mean Christmas eve and day? You must be doing something?!
Me: .. Sleeping in, making some really good tea, watching movies with the cats?
Them: *shocked gasp* You'll be alone on Christmas?! Don't you have anywhere to go?
Me: .. Did you miss the part about how I'm celebrating it early so I don't have to go anywhere on the actual days?
Them: But don't you have family?!
Me: Tons of family. They're all in different countries, except my mother, who has Alzheimer's.
Them: Well.. you could come over to our place..
Me: Um. Thank you for the offer, but really, I don't like going anywhere the few days before or during Christmas. Have you seen how people drive?
Them: But you'll be alone on Christmas!
Me: I know! Won't it be glorious?!

*sigh* This one was a neighbor down the street. Neighbors on both sides of me have offered to come over Christmas Day, but took my polite, "No thank you. I like to spend the actual holiday with my cats." very well, and are coming over on the 22nd for dinner instead.

For those of you in Minnesota - if you have access to the Royal Orchid Thai restaurant in Roseville or Minneapolis in the skyway - you should go there. They have ACTUAL Thai food, exactly like the stuff I ate in Thailand. Their curries are to die for and the one in the skyway does it line style so you can get whatever meat or tofu in it that you want. The owner's Thai, and a total sweetheart. I made a joke, asking when he was going to start selling fried bananas - which are at every little restaurant shack in Thailand - and he immediately said he'd make them for me if I called first a day before. The service is excellent, the portions are huge and cheap, the food is fucking fantastic. I'm pimping them out because the owner mentioned that they're hurting for business. This is because they run it like a Thai restaurant - it's there, they're in the phone book, they think people will find them without a massive advertising campaign. They're dead wrong. So, if you're in MN and like Thai food - go now, go often, bring your friends.
