Recruiter: "Hello [name]. I found your resume on Monster.Com and would like to tell you about an exciting opportunity.." [yadda yadda yadda boo]
Me: "Sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind being submitted for that."
Recruiter: "Fantastic! I just have a few questions. How did you hear about our company?"
Me: "You called me after finding my resume on Monster."
Recruiter: "Oh! Right! *stupid laugh* Ok, so.. Can you give me a good example of why we should represent you?"
Me: "You shouldn't."
Recruiter: "..er.. excuse me?"
Me: "You shouldn't. I don't have a Special Education teaching certificate."
Recruiter: "..er.. um.. I don't understand?"
Me: "I'm not authorized to work with the mentally challenged, so I can't work with you."
Recruiter: "EXCUSE ME?!"
Me: "Lady, you're a recruiter. You shouldn't be asking me for an example of why you should do your job. You should be asking me client-specific questions to determine whether I'm a good fit for the position. You chose to read off a cue-card instead. Consider this formal notice that I don't want you to represent me and that you should take my resume out of your database."
That smell in the air would be the smoke from a charred bridge. I feel no regret - that company does not have a good reputation in the recruiting field and their agent was an idiot.
