hahahahahahaha NO
Sep. 27th, 2009 07:07 amAnd yet again, I ask myself and my audience why people buy Macs. The chassis design of their notebooks is really, really awful.
Received emails back from Apple and MicroCentre - smallest quote was $700, that's IF they can find the parts, because I'd have to replace the entire screen. Apparently this is a common problem, and once it hyperextends (which, granted, happened before I got it), the little wires tend to get severed and the only way to replace them is to replace the whole screen.
I was warned that one day, I'm going to open the case and the screen will be dead. They were surprised it wasn't already.
So. I guess another computer is in my immediate future, unless I can do something to this one to make it live a little longer. Ouch.
It was a good experience, having this computer. It let me use a Mac long enough to realize that I don't really like them. I suppose they're great for keyboard-centric users, but I find having the command key where it is to be completely inconvenient - I can't reach it without completely shifting my hands out of standard typing position. It wouldn't be so bad if I only had to hit that key, but with combined keystrokes, that's really just a bad place for it. I would have put it where the function key is.
We'll see if I can eke another week of life out of this before it is retired for permanent.
