It's not going to be influenza that kills people. It's going to be the antibiotic-resistant pneumonia they pick up after rushing to the hospital with their 100.1F fever.
Fucking hell. It's virus season, people. Wash your hands, cover your mouth, and if you pop a fever, stay home in bed, drinking juice so you don't infect the rest of us. Rushing to the hospital without either pneumonia symptoms or bleeding from the eyes/nose/throat is the surest way to catch the never-get-overs.
There is no vaccine. Your flu shot will not prevent this version. H1N1 is the same viral form as the 1918 flu outbreak, HOWEVER - even then, most deaths were due to pneumonia. Stay indoors, stay warm, stay hydrated, and avoid hospitals unless you've developed an unending, productive cough or difficulty breathing or your fever spikes to over 103.
People are dying in Mexico by thethousands dozens because the hospitals are out of room and out of supplies. Which is also what will happen here if people start bum-rushing the hospitals because they're worried about the flu. Demanding antibiotics "in case" won't help. It's a virus. Taking antibiotics before you need them will make you more susceptible to secondary infection and deplete the reserves of antibiotics on hand.
