It could be worse..

I'm in shades today because my eyes hurt.

One of my attorneys showed up with serious contusions on his face and a potentially cracked cheekbone. A squirrel ran into the front tire of his bicycle and sent him headfirst over the handlebars. "The last thing I heard was a squeak."

I felt bad laughing at his pain.

But not too bad, because that's pretty darn funny.

My mom broke her elbow in Seattle when a loose dog ran, barking, headlong into her front spokes.

That's less funny. The dog should have been on a leash. Sorry to hear that.

I feel sorry for the squirrel. Had its spouse left it? All its investments in acorn futures tanked? How bad does your squirrelly life have to be for you to run headlong into a moving bicycle? And why didn't it try a car first?

Unfortunately, the attorney does not speak squirrel, so he doesn't know what the creature's last words were, other than "squeak".

Hopefully the attorney also saw the humor.
