My bigger objection is to the policy that any employee within 20' of me must greet me and offer to help me and attempt to sell me a book. It's possibly the most unwelcoming policy I've heard a bookstore have - it makes the customer feel as though they can't browse and that they must hustle to their item and gtfo. I can be polite once, or to someone genuinely trying to be helpful, but the sheer desperation that overtakes the employees - who MUST make a quota on those Make Books or be fired - is far too much for me to accept.
I used to love Borders, but I won't voluntarily be going into their stores until these policies change. Which I sent to their customer care email address. I don't like being harassed when I shop, especially not when I shop for books.
